Discussing my project to put the letters of George Bent online.

Hello and welcome to HombreHistory.com.

A project I have been working on over the years involves a frontiersman named George Bent, the son of William Bent and his Cheyenne wife. George grew up half white and half Cheyenne on the great plains and witnessed first hand some of the dramatic events of the wild west.

An educated man, George often was employed as an interpreter. In his later years he was often called upon to describe the life and habits of the Cheyenne Indians. George wrote letters to people such as George Hyde and George Grinnell, and these letters have been preserved.

Hyde wrote "Life of George Bent, Written From His Letters."

There are over 300 letters written from George Bent to Hyde. These letters are included on this web site as premium content for paid subscribers.
